November 28th 2015 - Workington Winter Wonderland

Workington is a town near where I live, it has more shops than where I live so we go over quite alot.  Today was the towns Winter Wonderland and Christmas Light switch on.

It was very cold, very wet and very windy.  This meant that many of the planned events throughout the day had to be cancelled for safety reasons.  A lot of the stalls couldn't stay as the wind kept blowing their goods around or actually demolishing the gazebos.  The local theater allowed some of the stalls to move into there for most of the day but not all of it.

It was a real shame about the weather but there was still lots of people about in the town which is good.  It was nice to get home in the warm afterwards.

November 15th 2015 - Rain

Rain, rain and even more rain!  We have had so much rain the pats few days that there is flooding everywhere!  Loads of areas  are on high flood alert and some are on caution of being evacuated.

I'm quite lucky my house is near the top of hillside, and is also up a flight of 13 stairs to do the front door, so we're not likely to flood.

Sadly though today we had planned to go to town for the Christmas light switch on but due to the rain I decided that we were not going to go and get wet.  It wouldn't have been fair on my middle son who has really bad asthma and would have ended up ill.  So we stayed at home in the warm instead.

November 8th 2015 - Remembrance Parade

As part of a uniformed organisation we always take part in the annual Remembrance Parade through town.

However, this year the weather was absolutely horrid, it wasn't just raining but chucking it down and the wind was blowing in all directions.  As the Youth Manager I made the decision that they did not have to parade if they didn't want to.  I spoke to the youth members and their parents and gave them all a choice of staying and parading in the rain or going home.  If they chose to go home I would not be cross but glad that they actually turned up.

6 of the Cadets stayed and paraded, I sent the 2 under 1oyr old Badgers home as it wasn't fair on them being small and 1 having health problems.  I am very proud of the Cadets that did stay and parade and they should be proud of themselves as well.

I just hope that none of them end up ill from it.  My son, who is a cadet paraded and when he came home he was soaked to the skin and shivering bless him.

August 31st 2015 - Bank holiday weather

August 31st 2015 - Bank holiday weather

Saw this pin and had to laugh as usually it is very true of bank holiday weather!  HOWEVER, it is NOT the case for today up in the lake district.  The sun is shining, its very hot and lovely!  A really nice day.

And here is a pic to prove it:

July 8th 2015 - St John Ambulance

July 8th 2015 - St John Ambulance

Today is a mixed day at St John Ambulance.  The cadets are doing their sponsored silence as part of their fundraising badge, and also to raise funds to buy the glow in the dark items we need for christmas party.  Fingers crossed they all do it, especially my son who has raised £101!

The badgers are *hopefully* going to the park as part of their wild badge, this is weather dependent.   As at the moment it is looking very grey and dark and has rained on/off most of day.  I did ask them to bring wellies and coats just incase, and as long as not raining hard we will still go, if it is hard they will be watching a dvd.

June 11th 2015 - BBQ

June 11th 2015 - BBQ

Today has been another absolutely lovely day, the sun has shined and was really hot.  We decided to do a BBQ for tea.  It was nice and the first one we've had this year.  Even though there has been nice days, they have either been too windy, we've had no food, no charcoal etc.

The above is just some of the lovely food hubby cooked.

burgers, chinese chicken drumsticks, chicken satays, chorizo n chicken kebabs, sausages, bread n butter and garlic pasta sauce, with smirnoff ice.

Followed by roasting marshmallows over the burnt out coals.

I liked the way the flames looked!

June 1st 20015 - Weather

June 1st 2015 - Weather

I have absolutely no idea what the weather is doing today.  It started off nice and dry and sunny, but was windy which made it feel cold.  It was really nice when the wind died down.

The sun then vanished behind clouds and hasn't re-appeared, but has been replaced with strong wind, drizzle, heavy rain and hailstones!  There's not much we haven't had, well no thunder/lightning, rainbows or snow!

This picture was taken yesterday which funnily enough had a similar pattern in the weather.  I didn't manage to get 1 of todays hailstones as they went as quickly as they came.

Its stupid, its June, we should be outside in vest tops getting a suntan NOT wearing coats and jumpers and freezing!  The weather is totally messed up!  As long as the promised heatwave comes in later in week and ideally stays for the summer I don't mind.

What a lovely day

Today has been really nice, its dry and the sun has shined.  This meant that me and hubby have ventured outside to sort some more of the garden out.  However, it was very wet and muddy under foot.

When we bought the house last May, the garden had 6ft weeds, dead trees and brambles all over it, as the previous owners hadn't done anything for about 7year.  It had been strimmed by the estate agents for viewings.

All of What is in that picture, we cut down last year, and it looked like this in September:

We put the kids swing in the top right corner next to the hedges, and added wood bark underneath, it looked really nice.  It was sprayed with cat repellant to keep them away, shame all the local cats didn't realise they wern't meant to like the spray and decided it was their new toilet!!! (yea totally gross!)  So, it has all been taken up and bagged for bin.  We were going to put decking squares under it but didn't have a framework to fix them to.  Son in the end we went for fake grass.  Took ages to do.

I also sat and scraped loads of the moss from the rock and stone walls!  Then decided to google how to get rid of it and apart from buying expensive stuff the top answer was whit vinegar in a spray bottle and they use a wallpaper scraper to remove.  This I will be trying.  I have lots of rocks/stones as part of retainers as the garden is on a downhill slope to the house.  I want them to look nice.

There is still LOTS to do in it, including digging out soil from the slop nearest the house in order to lay decking, leveling other parts to add grass seed to and part of it is going as patio.  It wont be finished this year I don't think, although it would be nice.

I certainly know I have done stuff as both my back and my knee are causing me pain!
