November 26th 2015 - Beef Stew

As the weather is cold and wet and horrid I have made a lovely beef stew in the slow cooker today.  All 3 of the kids when they came in from school asked what was for tea as it smelt lovely.

It tasted as nice as it smelt and apart from some gravy left in the slow cooker there was nothing left.

January 6th 2015 - beef casserole

January 6th 2015 - beef casserole

As its cold outside I decided to do a beef casserole in the slow cooker for tea.  All seemed good until I opened the bag of diced casserole beef (from supermarket) to find that most of it was fatty!  I'm hoping that with what I salvaged from the bag along with the tray I also had in freezer is enough to feed us all for tea.  I can safely say I wont be buying the stew pack beef again.  The idea for todays pin came from here.

I don't follow a recipe I just throw it all in.  Into the pot has gone diced beef, diced potatoes, sliced carrots, beef gravy, beef casserole powder, an oxo cube, regea regea sauce and worcestershire sauce.  smells lovely and usually tastes lovely.  I will addd a pic once its cooked!

Slow cooker

Yesterday saw the purchase of a slow cooker.  When my hubby came back to the car I wondered what else he had bought as the bag was HUGE!!!  Well, he hadn't bought anything else this huge item WAS the new slow cooker!!!

The decision to purchase 1 came after the long suffering problems I have had with my knee and the pain I am to stand and cook a meal.  It was when I was cooking the beef for a casserole the other night I thought it may make things easier for me.

Today is the day - I have decided to use it to cook a Sausage casserole - one of my kids favourite meals.  Fingers crossed it turns out ok!!!

I am now also on the hunt for some easy recipes that are along the lines of food we eat.

UPDATE:

sausage casserole was cooked within 3hrs of starting it, despite it saying on compaired time would take 5-6hrs.  This meant that it was cooked over an hour before the kids came home from school, so it had to stay on warm - which in turn made some of the sausages melt into the sauce.  at least I know for next time.
